Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian James Estrada


James Estrada is the Vice President of Information Services at Fairfield University.

Image: James EstradaEstrada joined Fairfield in 1996 as University Librarian and Executive Director of Academic Computing. In 1998 he was appointed to the newly created position of Vice President for Information Services in addition to his responsibilities as University Librarian. That reorganization brought together for the first time the departments of Academic Computing, Administrative Computing, Library, Media Center, and Telecommunication Services.

Prior to coming to Fairfield, he was Director of the Trecker Library and Associate Director for Regional Campus Libraries at the University of Connecticut. He has also served as senior systems analyst at Yale University and head of automation and systems at the University of Connecticut Health Center Library.

Estrada has served on various organizations in the fields of academic librarianship and information technology. The list of his affiliations includes the AJCU Chief Information Officers, Association of College and Research Libraries, EDUCAUSE, NEASC, NERCOMP, and OCLC. Currently he is serving a three-year term on the Current Issues Committee of EDUCAUSE which publishes an annual summary of technology trends in higher education.

Estrada is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, with bachelor's and master's degrees in Latin American Studies and a master's degree in Library and Information Science.

This goals of the Division of Information Services are to provide a better framework for technology and strategic planning and to align technology goals and objectives with institutional priorities.
