Prestigious scholarshipsGraduate Scholarships Requiring a Fairfield University Endorsement

The following directory lists only those scholarships, grants, fellowships, and loans that require a Fairfield University endorsement. David L. Boren Graduate Fellowships
This scholarship competition is sponsored by the Academy for Educational Development (AED)'s National Security Education Program (NSEP). Its purpose is to promote the study of under-represented languages and areas critical to U.S. national security; study of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.

Davis-Jackson Scholarship
A first generation undergraduate with limited financial resources who is seeking a masters in humanities or the social sciences (including economics) may be awarded tuition fees and room and board for two years at St. John's College in Cambridge, England.

British Marshall Scholarship
This program funds (primarily) two years of graduate study at a British university for at least 40 young Americans of outstanding ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Appointments are made for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years.

Fulbright Grant
An impressive number of Fairfield seniors have won Fulbright Fellowships - year-long scholarships that support post-graduate research in other countries. This government-sponsored program funds more than 1,100 American graduate student studies and research in over 140 foreign countries per year. Gates Cambridge Scholarship
This scholarship program is open to students worldwide with the exception of those from the United Kingdom. The program funds study for American students granted the status of affiliated students (those students attending Cambridge University through an American school) or for postgraduate study at the University of Cambridge.

George J. Mitchell Scholarship
This program awards 12 graduate degree study scholarships for the duration of one year at one of Ireland's higher education institutions.

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Scholarships
The DAAD New York office, founded in 1971, supports academic exchanges between the U.S., Canada, and Germany and offers a broad range of scholarships, grants and fellowships in Germany for U.S. and Canadian citizens, from undergraduate students to post-doctoral scholars as well as faculty and higher education professionals. Over 50,000 individuals per year are awarded scholarships by DAAD.

Hertz Foundation Fellowship
This program funds graduate studies leading to a Ph.D. in applications of the physical sciences at one of the universities affiliated with the foundation.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship
Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship awards up to $50,000 annually for graduate study. Students must demonstrate academic distinction, leadership, volunteerism, and financial need. It is available to students or recent college graduates beginning their first graduate or professional degree. Two students per year are nominated by the University conferring their undergraduate degree for this scholarship. Internal closing date is February 22, 2008. Deadline Date is March 14, 2008. The deadline for the JKC scholarship is now closed.

Lilly Graduate Fellow Program in the Arts & Humanities
This program offers graduate and postdoctoral teaching fellowships for young scholars interested in positions of educational leadership within church-related institutions. The fellowship will be contingent upon acceptance to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree program intended to lead to a career in teaching.

Rhodes Scholarship
This program, the oldest international fellowship, awards 32 scholarships to students from the U.S. and around the world to study any available field for two years at Oxford University in England, with all tuition fees paid and a living allowance provided. Students are selected on the basis of intellectual distinction, leadership, and service, and many ppursue a master's degree or a schold bachelor's degree.

Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship
This program provides a flat grant of $23,000 or its equivalent for one academic year of study in countries in which Rotary Clubs are present. The availability of Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship is determined by each Rotary district and varies from year to year. Applicants must contact their local Rotary clubs. Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship and Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship
This program awards prizes that cover tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees during the junior and senior years of college and during the first year of graduate study with reimbursement for books and one round-trip travel costs for students committing to the pursuit of a graduate degree in international studies at graduate school affiliated with the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation (WWNFF). Only U.S. citizens are eligible for this fellowship.
