Fairfield's many study abroad programs allow students to integrate living and learning through experiencing other cultures from the inside, and by taking on internships or community volunteer work overseas as well. A variety of short-term, intersession, and summer programs are available, but students who take an entire semester away typically do so in their junior year.
Careful course planning in prior semesters is essential. For certain study abroad programs, students may need language proficiency. They also need to be sure that they can fulfill all graduation, major, and minor requirements even if they are away from Fairfield for an entire semester.
Advisors might want to discuss, even in an advisee's first or second semester, whether he or she is thinking about studying abroad. If so, the student can check current offerings and policies and procedures.
