1987 Hall of Fame Inductees
Michael Beaudoin '79, baseball: As a hitter, pitcher, centerfielder, and second baseman, a case can be made that Mike was the greatest player in Fairfield's baseball history. Although he played just 2 1/2; seasons, it is significant that he ranks second in career RBIs and strikeouts by a pitcher (195). Mike was also named All New England in 1979 and holds Fairfield's career slugging percentage (.544) and season home run records (7). Tied for third in career home runs (11) and lifetime batting average (.326). He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the Major League Baseball draft and spent a year in their farm system.
Robert "Pops" Brennan Sr., Service to Athletics: Mr. Brennan was a fixture at Fairfield's athletic department for eons. Probably the Stag's #1 fan, he was seen at most men's and women's basketball games cheering with the best of the fans. He assumed many roles as a counselor, morale builder, advisor, and just plain friend to both players and coaches alike.
Nicholas Macarchuk '63, men's basketball: Nick is a pioneer in Fairfield basketball. He is a member of a 1961-62 squad that compiled a 20-5 record and was selected as the East's #1 College Division Team by the ECAC. He is the school's second leading rebounder with 942 and tenth in scoring with 1,217 points. During his years on the team, Nick held a scoring average of 16.6 per game, was fifth on the record list in free throws with 323, and was 11th in field goals with 477.
Donna M. Margine '81, women's basketball: Donna is the Lady Stags second leading scorer with 1,558 points (average of 17 points per game) and number six in rebounds with 483. She was the first Lady Stag to score 1,000 points and was given All-New England Team Honors in 1980 and 1981. Donna also received the Women's Athlete of the Year Award in 1981 and Connecticut Offensive Player of the Year Award in 1980 and 1981. But most important, she was the "heart and soul" of women's basketball as it climbed from Division III to Division I. After graduation she remained at Fairfield as an assistant coach from 1981-85.
Edmund "Ted" Sybertz '72, men's ice hockey: Ted is the fourth leading scorer for the Stags in hockey with 169 points. His records include a single game point total of 11 and assist record of 7 in one game. He holds the season assist record of 37. Along with Jim Monahan and Jean-Guy Laflamme, he combined to form a hockey line that was responsible for Fairfield's early successes in hockey.
Jerome "Flip" Williams '80, men's basketball: Serving as captain of the team from 1979-80, Flip ranks in the basketball record books with 1,371 career points (sixth), 553 field goals (fifth), 53.7 field goal percentage (fourth), 342 assists (fourth), and 269 free throws (ninth). He was a member of the great 1977-78 team that produced a 22-5 record and scored 23 points in the "greatest" Fairfield game, a 123-103 victory over nationally ranked Holy Cross. Flip's talents drew him some of the toughest defensive assignments, especially in his senior year. |
