The Sailing Club is a competitive sailing team captaining a fleet of six Vanguard Flying Juniors.
In the spring of 2009, several Fairfield undergraduate students organized sailing informational meetings on campus. As a direct result of their initiative, the Department of Recreation re-activated the club.
This group of students utilized the fall '09 semester through the spring 2012 semester to organize, clean the F-Js, and volunteer their time at the docks for miscellaneous upkeep.
Several major developments helped upgrade the Sailing Club Program at Fairfield.
The Department of Recreation reached an agreement with The Captain's Cove Marina, located in Bridgeport, CT. The marina is family-owned by the Williams family, whose son Bruce is a Fairfield alum. With floating dock space to anchor the six FJ's, Cove handymen constructed a dock house to store the club's necessities on the water.
The first-ever purchase of a 16' Key West safety/chase boat has enabled the club to sail on a regular basis, both weekday afternoons and most Saturday mornings throughout the fall semester.
Fairfield Sailing is fortunate to be working with several top-notch instructors/coaches from the region. Instruction is available on both a novice and experienced level. As a result, Fairfield was able to enter it's first-ever Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association regatta hosted by Providence College.
