Fairfield University is proud to announce that Women's Club Lacrosse has begun its fourth year of operations as a Sport Club within the Department of Recreation. Through the efforts of several undergraduates, the club conducted organizational meetings during the fall 2009 semester. In the spring of 2010, newly-elected club officers conducted tryouts under the lights on Alumni Field. After several workouts, the club roster was set with 30 plus members.
Currently, Fairfield is a member of the Women's Collegiate Lacrosse Associates (WCLA). This summer, Fairfield expects to be accepted into the regional league of the WCLA to become a member of the East Coast Women's Lacrosse League Association (ECWLA).
The ECWL considers the spring semester to be their "in-season" calendar. Therefore, during February, March, and April, the teams compete for conference standings. Fairfield's Club Lacrosse also played games, and/or tournaments during the fall 2011 semester. These matches will not count towards ECWLA standings.
Fairfield University is able to provide Alumni Field as the club's home site. Located on campus, Alumni Field has an all purpose synthetic surface on which numerous club, intramural, and varsity athletic contests are played throughout the year.
Club members determine their practice schedule for both semesters. Practices are typically in the evening hours, possibly under the lights on Fairfield's campus.
With the initiative of our female undergraduates, Fairfield University and the Department of Recreation are committed to further develop the women's club lacrosse program for years to come.
