More than 500 student-athletes compete on our 20 varsity Division I teams.

Fairfield University is an NCAA Division I charter member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). As a modern Jesuit, Catholic institution, Fairfield’s athletics program is an essential component of our overall mission to help students grow in all facets of life – intellectual, emotional, spiritual, social, and physical. Fairfield annually boasts among the best student-athlete graduation rates in the nation. Our varsity teams – the Stags – play at the NCAA Division I level and the University is a charter member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), the Northeast Conference (NEC) for Field Hockey and the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) for Men’s Lacrosse.

  • Fairfield Athletics won the 2023-24 MAAC Richard J. Ensor, Esq. Commissioner's Cup for the first time since 2011-12.
  • The Fairfield University mascot is named Lucas after longtime Fairfield CFO Bill Lucas.
  • Fairfield debuted the state-of-the-art $52 million Leo D. Mahoney Arena in the fall of 2022 that is the home of the Stags Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball and Volleyball programs.
