"The ultimate goal for the Fairfield University men's lacrosse team is simple - to win an NCAA championship ... and that is attainable. I believe that the men's lacrosse program is on track to be in the top 10 annually."
Gene Doris, Director of Athletics
A nationally ranked sports program deserves a top-notch venue and Fairfield University has announced plans to build a stadium that the Stags men's and women's lacrosse teams will call home on the current Alumni Field site. Thanks to a generous leadership gift from the former University Trustee, Lawrence Rafferty '64, his daughter, Kathleen Rafferty Hay '03, and his son Michael Rafferty, the new venue on its way to becoming a reality. The complex will be named Rafferty Stadium with a planned opening in February 2015.
When complete, Rafferty Stadium will have seating for 3,500 fans with bleachers spanning both sidelines. The playing surface will be high-quality artificial turf with state-of-the-art lighting and scoreboard. In addition, the facility will include a permanent structure on the West sideline that will house a press box, VIP suites, concession stand and locker rooms.
"Fairfield University is showing a clear commitment to the lacrosse programs," said head men's lacrosse coach Andy Copelan, "and this only helps to solidify our place amongst the elite in our sport. College lacrosse is ever changing, but my belief in our future remains constant. We have much to be excited about and Rafferty Stadium will be at the core of it all."
