Previous Seasons in Review

The ruggers concluded the 2009 season with a loss to Hofstra the MET Rugby Union championship match. In the closing minutes, Hofstra took the lead for good, winning a hard-fought game, 20-14. The contest was played at the Lt. Hans Grauert Memorial Field before a large Fairfield crowd of family, friends, and alumni.

Fairfield reached the MET Final by defeating Molloy College, 72-10. Led by Head Coach Ryan Birge, the Fairfield Ruggers finished the regular season in first place atop the MET Division III standings with a record of 5 - 1.

During the 2008 fall season, the women ruggers qualified for their first-ever post season competition. As a proud member of USA Rugby, the Fairfield club traveled to play Sacred Heart University in late October. Putting forth a brilliant effort, the ruggers lost in an overtime session to the Sacred Heart club. To date, it was the most exciting match in the history of women's rugby at Fairfield.

The club remained busy during the spring campaign, again representing Fairfield University at the prestigious Beast of The East Tournament in Providence, RI. The weekend event provided another great opportunity for the ruggers to display their skills against some of the best programs in New England. With a large contingent of underclass members, the Red Ruggers fell short in both matches, losing a close contest to Roger Williams 8-6 and falling to Fordham 12-0.
