Dr. Raymond Poincelot

Research in Plant Biology

Dr. Raymond PoincelotWe are challenged to pass on a better world to future generations. To do that we must utilize resources wisely and in a manner that has minimal impact on the environment. A constraint, especially with agricultural and horticultural systems, is that environmentally friendly approaches to resource usage must also be economically and socially viable. One possibility is to reduce fertilizer usage, which in turn decreases water pollution, but the reduction must not decrease plant yield or quality. My research utilizes natural resources, such as seaweed, bacteria and fungi, which hopefully act as biostimulants. My projects involve the treatment of plants with various biostimulants and the measurement of subsequent growth and development. The goal is to determine what natural resource can reduce fertilizer needs and still produce acceptable quality plants.
