College of Arts and Sciences Board of Advisors
The College of Arts and Sciences Board of Advisors, a committee of 20 distinguished alumni, parents, and faculty, assists the College dean in strategic planning and development activities for realizing the College's strategic priorities. Jorge Figueredo '82 chairs the board, which launched in 2005.
During its inaugural year of operation, the Board assisted with development of projects proposed by the departments of Biology, Religious Studies, Visual and Performing Arts, and the College. Dr. Timothy Law Snyder, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, identified four initiatives as funding priorities. As a result, four proposals were developed: three for $50,000 departmentally based projects, and a $300,000 proposal and budget for a new museum in Bellarmine Hall.
Goals include:
- Bolstering student-faculty scientific research and creating a mentoring program in the Department of Biology
- Increasing the number of students preparing for a broad array of careers by studying religion through extensive curriculum review, increased course offerings, and expanded student-faculty research opportunities in the Department of Religious Studies
- Establishment of a visiting artist/scholar program in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts
- The creation of a new museum in Bellarmine Hall for the University's growing collections, including a loan of Medieval art from the Cloisters Collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the University's 10 Renaissance and Baroque paintings from the Kress Collection
The total fundraising goal at this time for the Board of Advisors is $450,000.
