Politics Meets Faith Series
Politicians are invited to go on record in front of a live audience for a conversation on the role of faith in political life. The program will consist of 30-minute segments with individual politicians, taped in a studio on our Connecticut campus or at a studio in Washington, D.C. The series will be packaged for wide national distribution.
This will be a balanced bipartisan program with a non-argumentative format of questions and answers hosted by the Rev. Rick Ryscavage, S.J. It will provide an opportunity for both parties and independents to discuss the effect of faith and spirituality on their own political lives as well as how they see the role of religion in public affairs.
Politics Meets Faith Past Lectures: 2006-07
April 24th-25th: Trip to Washington DC
On April 24th and 25th the Center for Faith and Public Life traveled to Washington, D.C. with 9 students for a successful taping session for the Politics Meets Faith Series. The series was initiated in February with an interview with Congressman Christopher Shays, and the recent trip to Washington resulted in three more intriguing interviews. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II of Missouri, a Methodist minister, gave the first interview and provided a unique perspective on the relationship of faith and politics. Congressman Tom Price of Georgia, an Orthopedic surgeon, offered an engaging exchange with the student audience. The last interview was conducted in the nation's Capitol and was given by Congressman Jim McGovern of Massachusetts. Congressman McGovern has had a long history with the Jesuits and he spoke at length regarding the affect that has had on his life.
