How to Install AntiVirus Software (PC)

Installing Symantec AntiVirus software on a PC

Step 1: Verify that you have the University-supplied antivirus software installed on your computer

  • Click on the Start menu
  • Click Settings
  • Click Control Panel
  • Click Add/Remove Programs. If you see either Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition or Symantec Client Security, then you need not install the antivirus software.

Step 2: Download the Symantec AntiVirus program. Click here to download the software.

After you have successfully downloaded your new antivirus software you will need to make sure that you uninstall any pre-exisiting version of any other antivirus software. Failure to uinstall other antivirus programs can cause your computer to fail to work properly!

After you have verified that you do not have any pre-existing antivirus software installed on your computer, you should begin installing the new antivirus software by using the default settings for the installation. (run the "setup" application and not the Windows Installer Package file)

  • Once the software is installed, you will need to update the current antivirus definition files (the installation program will take you through the steps of doing this and you will need to be connected to the Internet).
  • You have now installed Symantec AntiVirus on your computer.
  • Return the the Student Computing Resource Center site and continue with ...

Step 3: Scan your computer for viruses.

Note: The Symantec AntiVirus software is for Fairfield University, full time, registered undergraduate students only! Any unauthorized redistribution is a violation of the Fairfield University Acceptable Use Policy and will result in judicial action.
