Full System Scan Virus Notifications and Instructions
Please refer to both the diagrams and written instructions
Open your AntiVirus program.
Click Start, Programs, and select Symantec/Norton AntiVirus.

First click "Scan" then "Scan Computer" as pictured below.

Click inside the box(s) adjacent to your Local Disk drives, such that it becomes checked off.
Hint: Typically (C:) is your local disk drive.
Click Scan in the lower right hand corner to begin a full system scan.

This scan may take anywhere from 15 to 55 minutes or longer depending upon the speed of your machine and the number of files you have on your computer.
If Symantec/Norton finds a virus during a full system scan the following screen pops up as a notification message. Feel free to hit the "X" button to close the message box.

A list of infected files will compile as pictured below. If you do not see a list of files after the scan completes then your machine is virus free.

If you are virus free exit the program. If your machine has a virus, click one the horizontal toolbar and move it to the right until you see the "Action Taken" header.
Note: Action Taken is the 5th column from the left.

If you see "Left Alone," write down the exact name of the virus (from the "Virus Name" column) on a sheet of paper for each instance.
Close the "Scan Computer" window by clicking on the "X" in the upper right hand corner.
Click "View," Select "Quarantine"

Highlight all files. Hold the "Ctrl" key and click each file as shown.

Click the red "X" as shown.

Click "Start Delete" to remove these files from quarantine.

Congrats your quarantined files have been removed from your computer.

If you had to write down files which were "Left Alone", then proceed Symantec Security Response Page to find the removal instructions for the specific virus found. Follow these steps listed and you should be able to effectively remove any viruses on your computer.
If you did not have any "Left Alone" files then you have completed this process. Click the "X" in the upper right corner to close your anti virus program. |
