Web Services

Computing & Network Services administers a wide range of web servers to allow all members of the University community the opportunity to get involved in web-page creation. The servers fall into two different categories: official University servers, the content of which is overseen by the Public Relations department; and independent servers, upon which anyone affiliated with the University can publish web pages without official oversight. The official University servers are all capable of publishing static HTML web pages as well as data-driven pages that utilize FileMaker Pro databases to generate dynamic pages.

All web servers are administered through the Web Services group of C&NS.

Official University Web Servers

  • Fairfield Web (www.fairfield.edu): the main University web server
  • Campus Intranet (info.fairfield.edu): the University's internal web server, providing information for on-campus access only
  • Adobe Contribute Content Management Server: the development and testing server for the official University web site

Accounts on the official web servers are limited to those individuals designated by their departments to be content creators or editors. For more information, contact Laura Johnson, University Webmaster, at webmaster@mail.fairfield.edu.

Independent Web Servers
To provide all students, instructors, and staff members with the opportunity to publish their own web sites, C&NS maintains three indepdendent servers on which anyone can obtain an account. These servers can be viewed and updated from both on- can off-campus.

  • Faculty Web (www.faculty.fairfield.edu)
  • Student Web (www.students.fairfield.edu)
  • Staff Web (www.staff.fairfield.edu)

Accounts are available to anyone who is a current member of the University community. To obtain an account, simply send a request from an official University e-mail account (Exchange or StagWeb) asking for space on the appropriate server. The e-mail can simply be sent to cns@mail.fairfield.edu. Within approximately 48 hours, you will receive a response with the account information and instructions for using it.
