Letter from the University Registrar

April 2008

Dear Degree or Certificate Candidate:

Fairfield University's 58th Commencement is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Bellarmine Terrace. All August 2007 and January 2008 graduates and May 2008 candidates are invited to attend. Bachelor's degree candidates will pick up their five guest admission tickets in the Barone Campus Center Office. All other candidates will be sent their tickets by mail.

Diplomas and Caps and Gowns: Caps and gowns, ordered from the degree cards that each candidate submitted, may be secured in Canisius Hall, Room 1, on Wednesday, May 14 from noon until 6 p.m. and on Sunday, May 18 starting at 7:45 a.m. Caps and gowns do not have to be returned. Directions for the securing of certificates and diplomas will be found in the "Commencement Directions" that will be posted on the Commencement Web site at www.fairfield.edu in early May.

Baccalaureate Mass: A Baccalaureate Mass for all graduates, their families, and friends will be celebrated promptly at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2008 in Alumni Hall.

Guests with Physical Disabilities: Fairfield University encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about physical access, please contact the Department of Public Safety at (203) 254-4090 from May 1 to May 9 - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please note that only one person assisting your guest with special needs will be permitted into the special seating area and that guest must have a commencement 2008 admission ticket.

Commencement Ceremony: Degree and Certificate Candidates will meet their Marshals in Canisius and Donnarumma Halls at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 18. Detailed instructions for assembly, the procession and the conferral of degrees will also be found in the "Commencement Directions" that will be posted on the Commencement website at www.fairfield.edu. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport. Information on the alternate site will be broadcast on local radio stations beginning at 6 a.m., on our Web site, and the Fairfield University Commencement 2008 telephone hotline: (203) 254-4222. Detailed instructions concerning this alternate site will also be included on the Web site posting. To avoid mispronounced names at Commencement, please provide your Dean with the phonetic spelling, if you feel it is necessary.
