Services for Students

Quad

For Freshmen
Making the transition into college brings it with new experiences and challenges. Here are a few links to help you through.

Individual Psychological Counseling
After an initial evaluation, students can engage in short-term psychological counseling for up to 12 sessions per academic year. Students who require extended or specialized treatment may be referred to other health services, as well as to self-help support groups such as AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and ACOA (Adult Children of Alcoholics).

Confidentiality
Confidentiality is a cornerstone of effective counseling relationship. Connecticut state law prohibits us from sharing any information about a student's counseling contacts without the written permission of the student or as required by law.

Crisis Intervention & Psychological Services
Counseling & Psychological Services provides 24 hour on-call service for psychological emergencies.

Psychiatric Referrals
For undergraduate students who are in psychological counseling, appointments with a psychiatrist is available. There is a charge for this service. Psychiatric referrals to community clinicians are also provided.

Academic & Disability Support Services

Substance Abuse Assessment and Treatment
Counseling & Psychological Services offers both substance abuse assessments and group counseling for individuals concerned about their alcohol or drug use.

Treatment for Eating Disorders
Fairfield University's Eating Disorder Treatment Coordination Team provides a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment, and oversees the physical well-being and psychological health of students struggling with eating disorders. Should more intensive treatment be warranted, our team works closely with the regional resources to provide students with other outpatient and inpatient treatment options.

Groups and Workshops
Clinicians meet with groups of students who have identified common issues, such as relationship problems, body image concerns and grief.
