Another Busy Year in Support of Strategic Initiatives  Details

The end of May provides an opportunity to briefly pause and reflect on several of our accomplishments during the spring semester and the list is extensive. Consistent with our strategic plan our initiatives focus on enhancing the computing and information services infrastructure which in turn provides a basis for delivering a wide array of direct services to faculty and students.

ADMINISTRATIVE COMPUTING

New Machine  Details
Banner is the name of the primary computing software application that supports various administrative functions such as student records, payroll, and accounting. A new computer server that supports Banner went live on Monday, April 3rd.

TouchNet/eCommerce  Details
Beginning in April, anyone taking University College courses over the summer will be able to register for the courses online via StagWeb and Banner Self-Service for Students.

Online Application Status  Details
Via StagWeb, undergraduate applicants can now check their application status online. Gone is the need to wait for snail mail! To date, 3597 applicants have been able to obtain a decision regarding the status of their application online.

Employee Benefit Statements Generated from Banner Database  Details
In March, personalized benefit statements were sent to employees’ homes. The documents were created in-house utilizing a Banner report developed by Administrative Computing that was specifically designed to include key elements that comprise the University’s total compensation packages.

Banner 7 Project   Details
Approximately every 14-18 months, there is a major software upgrade to the Banner System.

Banner Training Overview  Details
Many University staff and administrators recently attended Banner training on General Navigation, Job Submission, and Population Selection.

StagWeb Training Overview  Details
Several information sessions were held on how target announcements and emails can be sent to students via StagWeb.

Degree Evaluation   Details
The degree evaluation system is now live with the honors students’ core and program requirements.

Classroom Scheduling & Events Management Implementation   Details
Phase I of the CollegeNet R25 application went live in December and is used to schedule classrooms as well as other rooms for various University events.

Almost half of all incoming e-mail to Fairfield is in reality nothing but junk mail.

The Spring semester has seen continued growth in the C&NS Software Training initiative, with more than x classes having been offered with a total attendance of xx faculty and staff.

With the rise of the internet, it’s become easy to collect data by simply emailing a link to people and asking them to fill in a web-based form. But how do you create a survey and get it posted on a website?

E-Newsletters Debut at Fairfield  Details
The phrase “E-Newsletter” is one that’s thrown about frequently these days, and in many cases different people mean different things by it. In the past few months, Fairfield has debuted a number of its own E-Newsletters.

 

MEDIA CENTER

Fairfield’s Mobile Broadcast Uplink Truck Arrives  Details
On April 20, Fairfield University’s fully-loaded broadcast mobile broadcast uplink truck was introduced to the campus.

Two More Classrooms Upgraded to High Tech   Details
The Media Center and C&NS will be working to upgrade two more classrooms this summer.

Goodbye to Peter Sarawit   Details
After eight years with the Media Center Peter Sarawit is moving on as of June 30 to a new job with Fairfield Preparatory School.

New Media Film, Television and Radio Program Grows  Details
This has been a year of great growth for the New Media Film, Television and Radio program. Hosted by the Media Center, the 2005-2006 academic year is the first full year of the major’s existence.

 

DIMENNA-NYSELIUS LIBRARY

Food for Fines  Details
The library collected 130 cans of food in exchange for $186.15 in late fees. The funds and food were donated to Campus Ministry in support of Hunger and Homeless Week.

LibQUAL+ Survey  Details
Faculty and students spoke up about library services by participating in the LibQUAL+ survey.

MultiSearch—a new database to search across multiple databases   Details
MultiSearch, our new federated search product, was launched in April just in time for harried students.

DataSPIKE Marketing Campaign  Details
In February an innovative marketing campaign was launched to test the hypothesis that if a non-traditional marketing approach was used to increase awareness of electronic resources, it would boost the usage of these subscription databases.

New Books, New Laptops  Details
The new book display located on the main level and behind the grand stair was launched in January.

Celebrating 5 Years and 1 Million Visitors  Details
One million visitors have entered the library since the new section of the building opened in March 2001.

Interlibrary Loan Articles 24/7  Details
Speedier service and 24/7 accessibility are the goals of an improved interlibrary lending service debuted this spring.
