Scholarships & Grants
From its founding, Fairfield University has been committed to providing educational opportunities to motivated students of diverse social and economic backgrounds. To support this aim, Fairfield administers a comprehensive distribution of financial aid, using its own financial resources, state and federal funds, and private programs. Funds are awarded on the basis of both merit and need, to supplement the resources of students and their families and bring the cost of quality education to a manageable level.
Financial assistance is provided in the form of scholarships, grants, student loans and campus employment. Approximately 77% of freshmen receive some form of financial assistance.
Need-based awards are made after a thorough analysis of a family's ability to pay and they may vary from year to year according to the student's need and the availability of funds. A student's need is the difference between the total cost of education and the family's expected family contribution (EFC), determined by the FAFSA. The University invests a substantial portion of its own resources for student aid, but is unable to meet the full demonstrated need of all students.
Merit-based scholarships are awarded to academically talented students as entering freshmen by the Office of Undergraduate Admission. The awards are usually renewable if the recipient maintains a 3.0 grade average.
