Administrative Committees

Alcohol and Other Drugs

Committee Chair: Dr. Thomas Pellegrino, Dean of Students

Description: A multidisciplinary committee that meets routinely to address the use of alcohol and drugs on campus. This committee recommends policies and develops strategies to reduce the harm that alcohol and drugs has on Fairfield students.

Student Representation: Nomination from the Student Health Advisory Committee that is approved by the FUSA President

Athletic Advisory Committee

Committee Chair: Dr. Mark Reed, VP of Student Affairs

Description: Committed to formulating the broad policies within which the Athletic Department will operate and provides communication between the athletic department and various groups on campus.

Student Representation: Nomination from FUSA Directors of Athletics that is approved by the FUSA President

Enrollment Management Group

Committee Chair: Judith Dobai, Associate Academic VP, Enrollment Management

Description: Comprised of representation from across different university divisions that discuss topics such as enrollment standards, financial aid, housing and study abroad and how these policies affect our campus community and retention rates.

Honorary Degree Committee

Committee Chair: Fr. Charles Allen, S.J., Executive Assistant to the President

Description: To select the honorary degree recipients from a pool of applicants submitted by members of the Fairfield University Community. These recipients will receive their honorary degree at Commencement.

Registration Committee

Committee Chair: Dr. Mary Frances Malone, Associate VP of Academics

Description: Committed to examining current registration procedures, researching best practices and gathering feedback from members of our campus community. This committee is committed to instituting policies that will improve the registration procedures for all parties involved.

Student Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees

Committee Chair: Dr. Mark Reed, VP of Student Affairs

Description: Branch of the Board of Trustees that is strictly focused on researching and improving student life on campus

University Budget Committee

Committee Chair: Mr. William Lucas, VP of Finance

Description: To work with the Vice President of Finance on developing the University Budget for the coming fiscal year

Committee Chair: Mr. James Fitzpatrick, Assistant VP of Student Affairs

Description: Brings together representatives of the Faculty, Administration, and Student Body to discuss, investigate and provide recommendations to solving issues on campus

Valedictorian Selection Committee

Committee Chair: Dr. Mary Frances Malone, Associate Academic VP

Description: Selects the Valedictorian to give an address at Commencement by examining the speeches provided by the applicants.

Committee Chair: Dr. Rick DeWitt, Secretary of General Faculty

Description: The Executive arm of the General Faculty and is empowered to make decisions and recommendations on any matter of academic concern outside of changes to the core and contract.

Faculty Development and Evaluations Committee

Committee Chair: Dr. William Abbott

Description: Promotes excellence in classroom teaching and acts as a resource to faculty development. This committee is currently examining and instituting changes to the faculty evaluation process.

Public Lectures and Events Committee

Committee Chair:

Description: To assist in the planning, organization and promotion of lectures and events on campus.

Undergraduate Curriculum Committee

Committee Chair:

Description: To keep curriculum policies and standards under continual review, to assess any administrative academic proposals and to make recommendations to the faculty relating to the undergraduate curriculum

Career Planning Student Advisory Committee

Faculty Advisor: Catherine Borgman, Director of Career Planning

Description: To provide feedback and assist the career planning center to best meet the career planning needs of the Fairfield Undergraduate Student Body.

Housing Lottery Committee

Faculty Advisor: Mr. Jason Downer, Associate Director of Residence Life

Description: Through investigating different housing lottery options and receiving student opinion, the housing lottery committee will propose the best lottery system for Fairfield University.
