Application Requirements for International Applicants

  1. Application: Applicants applying online do not have to complete the entire application in one session. The application can be saved at any point, and you may return at your convenience. After you have submitted your application, you can use this site to track the status of you application, and check if your supporting documents, such as transcripts and recommendations, have been received. If you prefer, you can download a paper application to be completed and sent to the Office of Graduate Admission for processing.
  2. Application Fee: The application fee is $60 USD for all applicants. The fee is non-refundable and cannot be deferred or waived. If you apply online, you must pay by credit card via a secure web transaction in order to complete the application process. Otherwise, a check or money order made payable to Fairfield University is accepted with a completed paper application.
  3. Transcripts: Applicants must submit certified English translations and course-by-course evaluations from an approved evaluator of all completed undergraduate and graduate course work.
  4. Personal Statement: Please describe your purpose in undertaking graduate work in relation to the program of your choice. Include the factors or experience that led to your decision to pursue graduate work at Fairfield University and your ultimate goals. Please submit any additional information you feel will be helpful to us in making a decision on your application.
  5. Resume: Applicants are required to submit a current resume that includes work history and shows industrial experience.
  6. Recommendations: Two recommendations are required for admission to all graduate programs at Fairfield University, except for the MFA in Creative Writing which requires three recommendations. Applicants must use the recommendation forms provided, in addition to a separate written evaluation.
  7. Measles/Rubella Immunity Proof: Public Act 89-90: An Act Concerning Proof of Immunization Against Measles and Rubella for Certain Persons at Institutions of Higher Education requires that any student enrolled in a course of study leading to a degree or graduate certificate who was born after Dec. 31, 1956, must provide proof of immunization for measles and rubella. We will accept copies of your medical records demonstrating proof of immunization or you can download our immunization form to be completed by a medical professional.
  8. Interviews: Applicants are required to participate in an interview as part of the admission process. Candidates will be contacted by the program director to schedule an appointment.
  9. Application Deadlines: If you are applying from abroad the deadlines are: May 15 - Fall semester and October 15 - Spring semester.
    If you are a transfer student from another U.S. institution the transfer deadlines are (August 4 - Fall semester) and (December 15 - Spring semester).
  10. Certificate of finances in U.S. dollars: Declaration and Certification of Finances form and supporting documentation must be completed and returned before and I-20 will be issued. A separate affidavit of support from a sponsor is required in addition to the provided bank statements.
  11. Test Scores: TOEFL test results if student's native language is not English. (A composite score of 550 for the paper test, 213 for the computer-based test or 80 for the internet based test is recommended.)
