About Reserve Services

The DiMenna-Nyselius Library offers both traditional (In Library) and electronic reserve (ERes) services.

In Library Reserves:
Traditional reserve services are offered within the library building, at the Reserve desk, where students can consult materials that are in heavy demand for their classes. With your StagCard, course materials are available when the library is open. A Traditional Reserves Policy is available for your information.

Several types of materials can be placed on traditional reserve in the library, including books, photocopies of articles, photocopies of book chapters, or media materials such as microfilm, slides, videos, DVDs, Music CDs, CD-ROMs and audiocassettes. The reserve department accepts professors' personal copies in addition to library-owned materials.

ERes (Electronic Reserves):
With a password, electronic reserve course materials are accessible 24 hours a day via the ERes Website at http://eres.fairfield.edu. An Electronic Reserves Policy is available for your information.

Items eligible for electronic reserve status include book chapters, articles, images, links to online resources, and faculty-generated documents such as course syllabi, lecture notes, Web sites, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and word-processed documents, among other things.

Student Access

In Library Reserves:
Students should inquire at the Library Reserve Desk to access materials that their professors have placed on reserve.

To find out what items are available at the Library Reserve Desk, go into the Library Catalog and click on Reserve Desk. Locate items by typing in your instructor's last name, course name, or course ID.

Once a reference to an item of interest is located, students should give the call number to the desk assistant, who will retrieve the item and check it out to the student.

Most reserve materials must stay in the library building, and must be returned within four hours, however, other loan periods may be arranged as the professor warrants.

If a media item has been placed on reserve, information about media viewing equipment can be found on the Library Media Department's Web page.

Allowing professors to simultaneously learn about and experience document access through the ERes interface, directions (in MS Word format) for setting up specific features are posted in a Demo Course, including:

Additionally, explicit procedures for setting up an electronic reserve course page can be found within the Electronic Reserves Policy.
