How do I find a book?

  1. Begin your search on the library's homepage in the "Books/Media" tab. If you're looking for books on a particular topic, just type one or more keywords related to your topic in the search box. Or, if you're looking for a specific book, select title or author from the dropdown menu and type the title or author in the search box. Click "Search" when you're ready to see results.

  2. The next page will show you a list of results. It is sorted by relevance, but can be resorted by date to see the newest books on the topic at the top of the list.

  3. An icon indicates if the item is an ebook, a video, or a print book, and whether it is available, its call number and location at the library. Ebooks will show a location on “online.” To view an ebook click where it says “Click here to view.”

Tip: If a book is checked out, you can place a hold on the book. This means that the person who has the book must return it and you can then check it out.

  1. To limit to print books, select “Circulating Books” from the dropdown menu at the top and search again. Books already checked out will indicate when they are due back.Click on the book’s title to see more information, such as a summary or table of contents.

  3. To e-mail or print the book’s information, add it to a bag where the list can be viewed and  exported to e-mail or to the screen for a printable view.

  4. To find a book in the library, write down the call number listed under “Copy” and go the location specified to find the book on the shelf. If you wish to check the book out, bring it and your Stagcard to the Circulation Desk located on the main floor by the doors. Students may check books out for 4 weeks, and renew them for an additional 4 weeks.

 

  • You can search ReQuest to search just the libraries in Connecticut. With your Stagcard you can check books out at any public library in Connecticut.

  • Search WorldCat and request the book from another library. Just click on the Interlibrary Loan button.
