Library Instruction Classes
The goal of the DiMenna-Nyselius Library Instruction Program is to develop information-literate lifelong learners. We believe information literacy skills are an essential component of our students' development into scholars, informed citizens, and socially responsible individuals. Our information literacy program focuses on transferable knowledge and skills, and usually involves the formal teaching of the use of library materials and resources, including electronic resources, indexes and abstracts, and the online catalog, as well as reference works, books, and periodicals.
Students are introduced to library research in their freshman year through our mandatory Information Literacy Program. To assure further development of students' research skills, faculty members are encouraged to schedule a research class with the Library. Collaboration with faculty is essential to ensure our instruction is targeted to course objectives and specific to students' research assignments. An instruction librarian consults with the faculty member concerning their objectives for the course, course content, materials covered, and specific course assignments. The instruction session is then tailored to meet the particular needs of the faculty member and students
