Admissions


Admission requirements for the MFA in Creative Writing are based on the following criteria:

  • Sample portfolio. Students will submit a sample of their work
    (20-30 pages of fiction or non-fiction or 6-8 poems).
  • Letters of recommendation. Two letters of recommendation by persons who speak not only to the student's strength as a writer, but also to his or her commitment to writing.
  • Personal statement. Students should describe why they want to be a writer and emphasize their commitment to their craft. While students in the program can work in more than one genre, they should specify which of the three genres they are applying for in their personal statement.
  • Completed Application for Graduate Admission form.
  • $60 fee, made payable to Fairfield University.
  • Official transcripts verifying completion of an undergraduate degree.
  • Proof of immunization.

How to Apply:

For the winter residency, please apply for the spring semester.

Admission Deadlines

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Tuition and Fees

Program tuition per semester is $7,275; registration fee is $25. Residency room and board is $995 per residency, and $650 for day students; the fifth residency is $600 for all students. For confirmed students, a $1,000 non-refundable tuition deposit is required upon confirmation to the program. These rates are effective for the 2008-09 academic year.
