New Media letter CTL 104 - Sports Broadcasting

Sports broadcasting is a major component of the television, radio, and Internet industry. This course introduces students to the principles and practice of the world of sports broadcasting. Topics include the history of the industry, its developing techniques, the aesthetic and narrative structure of broadcast sportscasting, its economic impact on the industry, media law and ethics as applied to the sports world, and its significant place within the general broadcast world.

Some applied practicum experiences are required, allowing students experiential learning in writing, interviewing, reporting, and producing for sports shows and live events. This is an elective applied course in the television track of the new media, film, television and radio program of the Visual and Performing Arts Department, and fulfills an application requirement for the Visual and Performing Arts core. Three credits.
