War Broadcasts
Friday, September 14 at 8 p.m.
Saturday, September 15 at 3 & 8 p.m.
World War II was the first "Radio War," when broadcasts were used to inform and shape public opinion, and the war touched every show. You'll see actors working at a radio station on the home front turn out dramas, propaganda, and be interrupted by news bulletins - at a time when everybody knew someone stationed overseas.
Swashbuckling Heroes
Friday, January 18 at 8 p.m.
Saturday, January 19 at 3 & 8 p.m.
Some radio heroes were tough guys who never missed a chance to fight; some were good role models who always used proper grammar. All were fearless in the face of danger and battled sinister villains every week. Hear exciting adventures from the old West to the future.
Richard II
Friday, March 14 at 8 p.m.
Saturday, March 15 at 3 & 8 p.m.
Murder, politics, banishment and conspiracy! Richard II, written in 1595, is the first play in a series of four that chronicle the rise of the house of Lancaster to the British throne. Shakespeare's examination of kingship focuses mainly on the conflict between the legal and divine right to rule and the effectiveness of the ruler. This brand new adaptation is based on the style of radio shows such as Radio Guild (1929-1940), Great Plays (1938-1942), and the Columbia Workshop (1936-1947) which were just a few of the many weekly radio programs that presented adaptations of Shakespeare's plays.
