AH 130 Early Renaissance Art in Florence
The early 15th century was marked by an extraordinary convergence of artistic talent, interest in the antique past, civic pride, and belief in "man as the measure of all things." This course examines the artists and architects who contributed to the Early Renaissance, with emphasis on Florentines, including Donatello, Masaccio, Brunelleschi, and Botticelli. They are examined in the context of social and political conditions of the time. Broader issues, such as humanism and neo-Platoism, are also considered. Lectures and visits to churches, museums, and the famous Uffizi Gallery are included.
