Commencement 2008

Consistent with its Jesuit mission, Fairfield University seeks to educate the whole person, and a great deal of learning takes place outside of the traditional classroom. Student life at Fairfield is defined by a mixture and balance of academic rigor, co-curricular and extra-curricular pursuits, and service to others. Opportunities abound for students to engage themselves in the life of the University.

  • All freshmen are housed together
  • More than 200 sophomores participate and live in the Ignatian Residential College
  • More than 1,700 students participate annually in intramural and club sports
  • There are numerous clubs and organizations and leadership development opportunities for students of every class year
Service and the sense of "giving back" pervade the campus community - students perform service locally, nationally, and internationally
  • Fairfield's location puts numerous internship opportunities at students' fingertips and most take advantage of this during the junior or senior year
  • Liturgies on campus center on the needs of and appeal to college students
  • Fairfield fields 20 highly competitive men's and women's NCAA Division I athletics teams and plays men's and women's basketball in the 9,500-seat state-of-the-art Arena at Harbor Yard
  • Fairfield subscribes to the theory that college for undergraduates is a "four-year experience" and provides opportunities and services specific to students during each of the four undergraduate years
  • The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts offers a wide array of cultural activities for students, members of the University community, and local area residents in Connecticut and New York and brings nationally and world-renowned performers and exhibits to campus

In addition, Fairfield University strives to provide first-class services for students. Staff are ready to assist students at any time with questions, concerns, or just to listen.
