Robin Kanarek '96 Learning Resource Center Expansion and Enhancement

Dear Friends of the School of Nursing:

The project for the expansion and enhancement of the Robin Kanarek '96 Learning Resource Center has been an exciting and awe-inspiring experience. It has allowed us to come together as a faculty and dream about a vision of how we would like to teach. We have met with members of the Center for Academic Excellence, Health Communications, Visual and Performing Arts as well as the Development, Media, IT/CNS and University Operation departments to get their suggestions and input. The result will be the creation of a center where students can learn in a risk-free, hands on environment. Using simulation-based teaching will allow students to integrate nursing skills, critical thinking, and communication. Faculty will be challenged to provide enough background for the students to function, but to encourage independent learning in a variety of settings. Watching students grow in self-confidence and gain experience in performance of nursing skills and techniques will be one benefit. Providing the community with better prepared graduate nurses will bring advantages to all. It has been a privilege to work with such an enthusiastic group of individuals on the advisory board that are helping us realize this vision. Their expertise, support, and encouragement has had a profound effect on my teaching and job satisfaction - to find that others care as much about the future education of nurses, a central player in our health care delivery system, as I do, has been incredibly fulfilling.
