Ignatian Family Teach-In/Vigil at Fort Benning Georgia
Each year, Fairfield University students, staff, and faculty travel to the annual Ignatian Family Teach-In For Justice and the School of the Americas (SOA) protest in Columbus, GA. An important tradition, participants have an opportunity to learn about the efforts that their Jesuit brothers and sisters are making to help create a more just world. The date of the protest marks the anniversary of the murder of six Jesuit priests and two lay collaborators in El Salvador at the hands of soldiers trained at the School of the Americas (SOA). The SOA, now known as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC) is a combat training school for Latin American Soldiers located Ft. Benning, GA. For more information on the SOA/WHINSEC and the SOA protest, visit the School of the Americas Watch website.
