Gabriel Bol Deng, Lost Boy of Sudan: Lecture and Film Screening November 3 6 p.m. Kelley Center Presentation Room As a Lost Boy of Sudan, Gabriel fled his village during the civil war at age 10 and joined thousands of young boys to walk through deserts and cross the Nile to Ethiopia. After 13 years in refugee camps, Gabriel made it to America and is now getting his master's degree at LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY. Gabriel founded Hope For Ariang, an organization dedicated to building a primary school in his village of Ariang, Sudan. His film, Rebuilding Hope will be shown and he will be available for discussion after the film. rwhite@fairfield.edu
Getting to Know the G-Mail Basics:  Labels, Filters and Search Basics Sessions Available on November 4, 10, 18 December 2, 3, 4 3-4 p.m. Library Lab 115 Students will learn how to use Gmail labels to organize email, will learn how to create and apply filters to Gmail messages, and will learn how to create a signature in their Gmail. rriskin@fairfield.edu
Homelessness Action & Awareness Event: Homeless Village November 3 7 p.m. Loyola Green This sleep-out is a one-night rain or shine event. Boxes will be provided to the participants to set up their "homeless shelter" and spend a night living in solidarity with the homeless. To add action to this event, we will be collecting nonperishable goods for St. Charles' Food Pantry: students will "rent-a-box" with a nonperishable good. Foreign Flicks: "Lo Non Ho Paura" - Italian with English Subtitles November 4 5:30 p.m. Canisius Hall 207 (LARC) In the spirit of the University's message about global citizenship, come and learn about diverse cultures and visions through film. Unveiling the Myths and Truths About Skin Cancer November 4 5:30 p.m. Mezzanine Above Jazzman's The Mike Geltrude Foundation will be visiting Fairfield University to help raise awareness on the dangers of skin cancer and the need for understanding sun safety. St. Jude's Up Til Dawn November 9 6-10 p.m. BCC LL Make a difference in the lives of children and join Up Til Dawn! Become a part of our campus-wide effort to support the lifesaving treatment and research at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Up Til Dawn is a fundraising event where the students address pre-written letters to people they know asking them for donations. The students who send in 35 or more letters are entered in a raffle for the chance to win a Nintendo Wii. At this event there will be plenty of food, music, entertainment & prices for everyone including free T-shirts. Colleges Against Cancer's Fashion Show: The Concrete Catwalk December 5 6-9 p.m. BCC Oak Room A fashion show that raises money for the American Cancer Society. This year is a New York City theme.
