Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)


Image: Request InformationCT State Certified Instructors lead students through a semester-long course focusing on patient assessment and emergency care of the pre-hospital patient. This certificate program offers students the knowledge and skills necessary to provide pre-hospital emergency medical care to those who are sick or injured. The course also prepares students for the two-part Emergency Medical Technician National Registry exam. This course meets education requirements established by the State of Connecticut and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

Course instruction will cover:

  • CPR
  • General pharmacology
  • Respiratory emergencies
  • Cardiovascular emergencies
  • Musculoskeletal, head, and spine trauma
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Ambulance operations
  • Hazardous materials
  • OB/GYN emergencies
  • Scene safety
  • Emergency medical techniques for children

Wednesday, January 20-Wednesday, May 5, 2010. Classes meet Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cost: $520.00. Textbooks included.

Instructors include Alex Krshisezki, Officers Patrick Cleary, Joe Laucella and Lea Zwally all of the Department of Safety at Fairfield University. All instructors are State of Connecticut certified EMS-Instructors, American Heart Association CPR Instructors including AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and First Aid. Other guest lectures from the medical field will make periodic visits.
