CT State Certified Instructors lead students through a semester-long course focusing on patient assessment and emergency care of the pre-hospital patient. This certificate program offers students the knowledge and skills necessary to provide pre-hospital emergency medical care to those who are sick or injured. The course also prepares students for the two-part Emergency Medical Technician National Registry exam. This course meets education requirements established by the State of Connecticut and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

Course instruction will cover:

  • CPR
  • General pharmacology
  • Respiratory emergencies
  • Cardiovascular emergencies
  • Musculoskeletal, head, and spine trauma
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Ambulance operations
  • Hazardous materials
  • OB/GYN emergencies
  • Scene safety
  • Emergency medical techniques for children

Course Number: CE 165

Wednesday, September 3, 2008-Saturday, December 20, 2008. Classes meet Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cost: $520.00. Textbooks included.

Instructors: Joe Laucella, a part-time officer of Fairfield University Public Safety Department and operations manager of Echo Hose Ambulance in Shelton, is the primary instructor. Laucella is a State of Connecticut certified EMS-Instructor, American Heart Association CPR Instructor, and a Certified Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor.
