International Students
Fairfield University welcomes applicants from the United States and abroad. An international applicant is someone whose citizenship is from a country other than the United States.
Application Procedures
International first year or transfer applicants should submit the following information:
- Common Application and Fairfield University Supplement
- Recommendations - A school counselor recommendation is required for admission. For schools without a counselor, a recommendation may be sent from the principal or headmaster of the school.
- Academic Credentials - A secondary school transcript and/or A or O level exams results are needed for admission. This must be an original of your academic record or a certified copy. (Certification must be by an official of the institution in which you are enrolled, a notary public or a U.S. consular official.)
- When necessary, an English translation must accompany your transcript. Students submitting GCE (O Level) must have passes (C or above) in at least five academic subjects.
- Standardized Tests - Fairfield University does not offer an intensive English program during the academic year. All students for whom English is not their native language must demonstrate their proficiency through the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language.) Students must score at least a 213 on the computer based exam, a 550 on the paper based exam, or an 80 on the internet based exam.
- SAT I results are required for all native English speakers. Although this test is not required for non-native English speakers, we encourage those students to take the SAT I, particularly if a student is interested in a merit scholarship.
- A limited number of merit scholarships are available for freshmen. To qualify for one of these scholarships, you are strongly encouraged to take both the SAT I exam and TOEFL. A complete admission application, including these scores, should be submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admission by November 15 under the Early Action guidelines.
- Application Fee - The $60 (US) application fee must be issued on a United States bank account or wire transferred direct to the Bank of America, ABA #026009593. Credit this fee to Fairfield University Account #9415831448 and indicate the applicant's name. The Office of Admission should be notified immediately if the student intends to wire the payment.
- Financial Affidavit - The United States government requires all F and J visa holders to verify their ability to fund their education. All international applicants are required to submit either a Declaration and Certification of Finances or a certified bank statement verifying their ability to fund their education at Fairfield University. When verifying proof of funds, please verify beyond the dollar amount listed below in order to account for the increase in cost for the 2007-2008 academic year.
- I-20/DS-2019 Form - This form will be sent only after the student has been accepted, paid the confirmation deposit and provided evidence (financial affidavit) of an ability to finance his or her own education.
Please Note:
- Financial Aid - No need based aid is available to international students. Additional financial aid information can be found at the International Education Financial Aid website.
- Full Time Students - All undergraduate F and J Visa holders must take 12 credit hours per semester to remain in status.
