Course of Study


The program in studio art is designed to provide a balance of theory and studio practice as well as an understanding of historical and contemporary art. Majors take 11 courses including

Foundation Studios

  • Foundation: Interpreting the Self
  • Foundation: Structure, Space and Environment
  • Foundation: Drawing
  • Foundation: Figure Drawing

At least three of the following:

Advanced Studios

  • Drawing I and II
  • From Drawing to Painting
  • Painting I and II
  • Printmaking: Intaglio
  • Printmaking: Screen Printing
  • Printmaking: Digital Arts
  • Printmaking II
  • Sculpture I and II
  • Digital Photography
  • Photography I and II
  • Investigation of Text and Image
  • Time Arts
  • Watercolor

Two Capstone Studios

Majors must also take two art history courses, and we recommend one contemporary art class. An 18-credit minor program in Studio Art is also offered.
