We seek to embolden and support on-campus journalism, storytelling, and production, as well as the critical inquiry and social scientific study of film and television, broadcast communications and digital media within the Meditz College of Arts and Sciences, academic departments and student media organizations.

Each year, Cinefest celebrates the hard work and creative talents of Fairfield’s up-and-coming filmmakers by screening an impressive line-up of original short films and videos produced by undergraduate students in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts’ film, television, and media arts program.

Stags in LA: Students from the Meditz College of Arts and Sciences spent spring break in Los Angeles, where they visited multiple media companies and agencies and were hosted by Fairfield Meditz alums.
The Fairfield Mirror was awarded with four Apple Awards from the College Media Association in New York City in March 2026.

Communication and Sports Media major Andrew Jamieson ’26 interned at Sports Illustrated and served as a reporter and writer covering the New York Mets.
Each Fall and Spring semester, the Institute will fund multiple faculty and student-led initiatives with grants. Successful proposals may aim to create media on a specific platform (e.g. web, social media, film/ TV, podcast, etc.), critically engage with the media industries, or provide experiential learning opportunities.
