Undergraduate Merit Scholarships

All students admitted to Fairfield are automatically considered for a merit scholarship, regardless of whether they have completed an application for financial aid. Eligibility for a merit scholarship is determined after a thorough review of all aspects of a student's application, including their overall academic record, strength of their academic program, and their extra-curricular involvement.

In keeping with the University’s holistic review of applications, there are no minimum grades or standardized test scores required for merit scholarship consideration.

Merit scholarships range from $10,000 to $30,000 and are applicable towards tuition only.

Graduate Merit Scholarships

Graduate students may be eligible for merit scholarships offered to students enrolling in select programs. Graduate merit awards are partial scholarships distributed at the time of admission decision, and candidates gaining admission in approved programs will automatically be considered. Eligibility is determined after a thorough review of a student’s application, including overall undergraduate academic record.

Fairfield University offers partial merit-based scholarships of up to $6,000 per year to recognize and support exceptional graduate students. Whether you attended another college or university for your bachelor’s degree or graduated from Fairfield over one year ago, you may be eligible for merit aid. Scholarships are competitive and awarded to applicants who embody Fairfield’s commitment to academic excellence. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits per semester and maintain a GPA of 3.00 to renew and continue receiving the scholarship. Merit awards are disbursed in the fall and spring semesters and renewable up to 5 semesters of enrollment of 6 credits or more.

Awards are determined at the time of admission to new students entering Fairfield University for the first time. Students in eligible programs will be automatically considered, and no application is required.

Merit awards may be available for graduate students enrolling in the following programs:

  • School of Engineering & Computing: ALL Programs
  • Charles F. Dolan School of Business: Business Analytics; Marketing Analytics and Strategy; Finance
  • School of Education & Human Development: School Psychology; Marriage and Family Therapy
  • John Charles Meditz College of Arts & Sciences: Industrial/Organizational Psychology; MFA in Creative Writing
  • Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing & Health Studies: Master of Public Health (MPH)

Fairfield University offers current undergraduates the opportunity to complete up to 6 graduate-level credits as part of their bachelor’s degree. Fairfield undergraduate students seeking to enroll in a graduate program at Fairfield should consult with their academic advisor or dean’s office to determine potential courses that may be taken in advance of their graduate enrollment.

Many graduate programs at Fairfield will allow these courses to be used to reduce the number of credits needed for the master’s degree.

The classes are taken as a part of the student’s undergraduate tuition, thus saving the students time and money (up to $7,440 depending on graduate program).

Many graduate students utilize graduate assistantships to help offset the cost of their graduate degree. More information can be found here.
