Fairfield Women’s Basketball hosts Fordham at 2 p.m.
Fairfield Athletics will celebrate 50 years of women’s varsity athletics this Sunday, Dec. 10, at Leo D. Mahoney Arena. The event includes a noon reception in the Diffley Club upstairs at the arena, followed by Fairfield Women’s Basketball hosting Fordham at 2 p.m.
Registration includes admittance to the noon luncheon and the game. All female athletics alumnae and former coaches can receive complimentary admission by contacting Kelli McCombs, Assistant Director of Athletic Advancement at kmccombs@fairfield.edu to RSVP.
The 1973-74 women’s basketball team was “officially” a club program, but competed against several varsity programs, with the intention of joining the varsity ranks in the following season. That 1974-75 team entered NCAA Division III and went a perfect 16-0 to begin the storied history of Fairfield Women’s Basketball and Women’s Athletics at the NCAA varsity level.
