Field Hockey Wins the NEC, Women’s Soccer Claims the MAAC, and Hannah Snayd ’27 Takes the Individual MAAC Cross Country Title

Over the last two weeks, Fairfield University Athletics has celebrated three conference championship victories: field hockey earned the 2024 NEC Championship, the women’s soccer team took home the MAAC Championship, and Hannah Snayd ’27 broke the tape to the win the individual MAAC Women’s Cross Country crown.

The collection of trophies started with Snayd. The first-year Stag beat the field on Nov. 2 at the MAAC Women’s Cross Country Championship. She crossed the finish line with a personal-best time of 20:36.3 on the 6K Course at Twin Ponds on the Farm, more than nine seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Snayd, who was named MAAC Most Outstanding Runner and MAAC Rookie of the Year, is Fairfield’s first-ever individual MAAC Cross Country Champion.

On Nov. 9, the field hockey team defeated host and top-seeded Wagner, 2-1, to earn the program’s third NEC Championship. The Stags earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time, where Fairfield was clipped by Delaware, 2-1, in overtime on Wednesday afternoon. The championship season put the final touches on the legendary coaching career of Jackie Kane ’87 in her 30th and final campaign leading the Stags.

Twenty-four hours later, the women’s soccer team took the pitch on Lessing Field and completed a perfect 12-0-0 home season with a 1-0 shutout of visiting Quinnipiac. Also the MAAC Regular Season Champions, the Stags raised the MAAC trophy for the first time since 2008 to advance to the NCAA Tournament. Fairfield visits Georgetown this Saturday, Nov. 16 with kickoff in Washington, D.C., set for noon.

Still on tap for the fall is the MAAC Volleyball Championship. The first-place Stags have already won at least a share of the regular season crown and will contend for the 14th MAAC title in program history beginning Nov. 23 at Siena’s UHY Center in Albany.
