Two Fairfield University teams will play for conference championships this weekend: Field hockey will travel to Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y., to play for the Northeast Conference (NEC) title on Saturday, while women’s soccer will host Quinnipiac for the MAAC Championship game on Lessing Field on Sunday.
Fairfield Field Hockey challenges for its third NEC Championship on Saturday after upsetting Rider, 2-1, on Thursday. The Stags are 11-8 in this season heading into the final against the tournament’s top seed and host, Wagner. Fairfield picked up a 3-1 win over the Seahawks earlier this season. The Stags are in the 30th and final season led by Head Coach Jackie Kane ’87.
The MAAC Regular Season Champion Fairfield Women’s Soccer brings a 17-2-1 record into Sunday’s final, including a perfect 12-0 record on Lessing Field. The Stags defeated Manhattan, 4-1, in a semifinal match to setup Sunday’s clash with Quinnipiac. Fairfield upended the defending champion Bobcats, 2-0, on Oct. 30 on Lessing Field.
