The defending Women's Basketball MAAC Champions earned their first national ranking in program history last season.
Fairfield University Women's Basketball has received votes in both the Associated Press (AP) Preseason Top 25 Poll and the USA TODAY Sports Coaches’ Poll — the first time the Stags have been recognized on the national preseason ledgers. The reigning MAAC Champions, who were also tabbed as the conference’s unanimous preseason favorites, welcome back four starters from their historic 2023-24 campaign.
"We are grateful to be receiving votes to be amongst the best teams in the country," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "This only fuels our fire to prove that we belong in that group. With 90 percent of our scoring returning and some great new additions to our roster, we are confident in what we have in our locker room, while also understanding the work that is ahead of us."
The Stags recorded a 31-2 overall record and a perfect 23-0 clip against MAAC opponents last season, culminating in a MAAC Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. The campaign was highlighted by a conference-record 29-game winning streak, which was the second-longest in the nation, behind only #1 nationally ranked and eventual undefeated National Champion South Carolina.
Fairfield was ranked #25 in the nation by the AP – the first national ranking in program history – for the final three weeks of the 2023-24 season. The Stags received votes but were never ranked in the national Coaches’ Poll last year.
