Thirteen graduate students in the Master of Social Work (MSW) program were the first at Fairfield University to be inducted into the Phi Alpha Honor Society for Social Work

Last fall, the School of Education and Human Development’s Master of Social Work Program (MSW) celebrated a milestone when 13 of its graduate students were inducted into the national Phi Alpha Honor Society for Social Work.

“This induction celebrates these students’ achievements while underscoring the importance of service, integrity, and the pursuit of social justice — principles that are at the core of our MSW program and Fairfield’s Jesuit mission,” said Suzanne Marmo, PhD, LCSW, associate professor and director of the Social Work program.

Open to students who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work, the purpose of the Phi Alpha Honor Society, according to its website, "is to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideas."

Fairfield’s MSW program is designed to be low-residency, offering students support from expert faculty in the field as they prepare for clinical settings.

“These students represent the future of the social work profession, and we are thrilled to have them as part of our larger Fairfield social work community, where they will continue to make meaningful contributions to the lives of those they serve,” said Dr. Marmo of the new honor society inductees.
