Seven Stags Earn All-MAAC Honors

Two days after making the walk across Bellarmine lawn to receive his diploma, Jack Gethings ’19 was crossing another stage to collect another well-deserved honor. This time, the Fairfield baseball standout was being recognized as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Year, highlighting several all-conference honors earned by the Stags on Tuesday evening.

The first Stag in program history to earn MAAC Player of the Year honors, Gethings was also the shortstop on the All-MAAC First Team – joined by his teammate and classmate, first baseman Anthony Boselli ’19. All-MAAC Second Team laurels went to outfielders Tim Zeng ’19 and Dan Ryan ’20, and starting pitcher Austin Pope ’20. Rounding out the All-MAAC honorees were pitcher Michael Sansone ’22 and infielder Justin Guerrera ’22, who were both tabbed for the conference’s All-Rookie Team.

Along with the seven All-MAAC selections, 16 Stags were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team: Josh Arnold, Bryson Cafaro, Mike Caruso, Eric Cerno, Tyler Gambardella, Jack Gethings, Nick Grabek, Ian Halpin, Jason Hebner, Peter Horn, Austin Pope, Dan Ryan, Tom Ryan, John Signore, Nick Weyant and Tim Zeng. These student-athletes all boast cumulative GPAs of 3.20 or higher.

Fairfield Baseball is in the midst of the 2019 MAAC Championship tournament, which is being contested at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Staten Island, N.Y. – the home of the minor league Staten Island Yankees.
