Fairfield Volleyball, Men’s Soccer, and Men’s Golf collect weekly awards.

With Fairfield Athletics in full swing, the Stags’ early season performances have merited multiple weekly honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Student-athletes from Fairfield Volleyball, Men’s Soccer, and Men’s Golf have been recognized by the conference office thus far in the unique spring and “fall in the spring” athletics season.

On the heels of a 4-0 start to the 2021 spring season, Fairfield Volleyball has collected a trio of weekly honors. Manuela Nicolini ’20 M’22 was named the MAAC Player of the Week following the Stags’ sweep of Rider in the final matches at Alumni Hall on March 7. Newcomer Georgia Via ’24 was tabbed as the MAAC Libero of the Week for her showing against the Broncs, and she earned the honor a second time after this past Sunday’s road sweep at Iona.

Fairfield Men’s Soccer opened its 2021 spring campaign with a 2-0 win at Canisius and garnered two honors for the road victory. Gordon Botterill ’21 earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Week laurels, making three saves to preserve the clean sheet. On the offensive end, Alex Oliveira ’23 started and scored a goal in his Stags’ debut, en route to MAAC Rookie of the Week recognition.

Most recently, golfer Jason Salameno ’22 was named the MAAC Men’s Golfer of the Week after winning the Peacock Invitational. At Monday’s event at Fox Hollow Golf Club in Branchburg, N.J., Salameno was the lone golfer under par with a 69 (-1) through his 18 holes. He is the first Stag to earn medalist honors since Kevin Duncan '19 set the pace at the 2016 Monmouth Invitational. Salameno’s performance led the Stags to a share of second place on the team leaderboard.
