Stags Lead Nation in 4-Way Tie for Most Players Named to NFHCA Academic Squad

The 2021 NEC Champion Stags

Fairfield Field Hockey, winner of the fall 2021 NEC Championship, saw 24 student-athletes named to the squad.

Fairfield University Field Hockey placed 24 student-athletes on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad, tying three other programs as the most represented teams in the nation. The Stags’ 24 honorees matched those of Duke University, University of California Berkeley, and the University of Iowa.

NFHCA National Academic Squad members must hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher through the fall 2021 semester. The Stags’ 24 honorees led Fairfield Field Hockey to a department-best 3.79 semester GPA in the fall term.

Under the direction of Head Coach Jackie Kane '87, the Stags finished the 2021 fall season with a 14-8 overall record and captured the 2021 NEC Regular Season and Tournament championships for the second time in three seasons. Fairfield went on to challenge Delaware in the NCAA Championship First Round, where they were clipped by a 4-3 score in overtime against the CAA Champion Blue Hens.
