Rugby Clubs Head to Quarter-Final Tournaments, Nov. 19

Both Fairfield University men’s and women’s rugby clubs achieved hard-earned victories to secure spots in the quarter-finals of their respective leagues’ national tournaments.

Fairfield University's rugby club teams are headed to the quarter-finals for their respective leagues’ national tournaments. This is the first time in program history for both the men’s and women’s programs to make it this far in these national tournaments.

The men’s club, which is ranked third in the Liberty D1 Conference, earned its tournament spot after besting Dartmouth at Grauert Field on Wednesday, Nov. 9. The Red Ruggers will head to Crestview Hills, Kentucky, to play Thomas More University on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. If they win, they will head to the Final Four at Penn State on Saturday, Dec. 3.

The women’s rugby club finished second place in their D2 Tri-State Women’s Conference after a hard-earned victory against Columbia University. The Lady Ruggers will take a trip to Annapolis, Maryland, to play Providence at the U.S. Naval Academy on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 12 p.m. The winner of this match will go on to play the winner of the Temple versus Colorado Mesa game on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 12 p.m., to decide which team will attend the Final Four tournament in Matthews, North Carolina, on Saturday, Dec. 3.
