October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month and the Department of Information Technology Services will host a series of events for the campus community, to raise awareness of cybersecurity risks and to promote ways to prevent cybersecurity breaches.

To kick off the month, former FBI Assistant Director Frank Figliuzzi ’84, a national security contributor and regular columnist for NBC News and MSNBC, will present “Today’s Threat Landscape and How to Protect Against It” on October 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Barone Campus Center Dogwood Room. Figliuzzi will be signing copies of his book, The FBI Way, which will be on sale starting at 1:30 p.m. First-year students who attend the event will receive FYE INSPIRE credit. Students will also have a chance to win a MacBook Pro and a signed copy of Figliuzzi’s book.

“We are thrilled to have Frank return to his alma mater and spend time with our faculty, staff, and students,” said University Chief Information Officer Jonathan Carroll ’91, who will moderate the event. “Raising awareness around digital security and cyber threats, both in our professional lives and personal lives, is extremely important. We are fortunate to have Frank join us to share his global perspective on today’s threat landscape as we kick off Cybersecurity Awareness Month.”

Following the October 5 event featuring Figliuzzi, the campus community is invited to hear from FBI Computer Scientist Andy Lee on “The Global Cybersecurity Risk Outlook: Solutions and Opportunities” on October 19 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Barone Campus Center Dogwood Room. First-year students who attend will receive FYE INSPIRE credit and students will have a chance to win an Oculus VR Headset and AirPods.

Finally, on October 26, the University community is invited to get their bag of cybersecurity swag at the Cybersecurity Trick or Treat Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m in the Barone Campus Center Oak Room. First-year students who attend will receive FYE INSPIRE credit and students will have a chance to win a MacBook Pro, AirPods, an Oculus VR Headset, and more.
