Faculty co-curators will host a discussion of the current art exhibition, featuring international posters on issues surrounding women’s rights.
The Fairfield University Art Museum will host faculty co-curators of their exhibition Women’s Rights Are Human Rights: International Posters on Gender-Based Inequality, Violence, and Discrimination for an in-person panel discussion at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Wednesday, March 1 at 5 p.m.
The exhibition is co-curated in collaboration with museum staff by a group of faculty members in the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) program: Rachelle Brunn-Bevel, PhD; Elizabeth Hohl, PhD; Johanna Garvey, PhD; and Anna Lawrence, PhD.
Originally organized and curated by Elizabeth Resnick, MFA, professor emerita, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, the exhibition, Resnick explained, “features posters created by both men and women to celebrate and acknowledge the vital role that all citizens should play in protecting and promoting human rights, while actively challenging gender inequality and stereotypes, and advancing sexual and reproductive rights.”
The exhibition in the Walsh Gallery, on view now through April 6, features more than 70 large-format posters, created by designers from all over the world, highlighting the long-standing fight for gender equality as it relates to Black, Indigenous, people of color, LGBTQIA+ and gender-nonconforming communities.
“As always, all are welcome and encouraged to engage with the exhibition and the numerous free programs and events that we have planned to complement it,” said Carey Mack Weber, executive director of the Fairfield University Art Museum. “We look forward to sharing these powerful posters and creating a place for conversation around the issues raised by them.”
Please note: This event is in-person only, but will be recorded. Recording link will be sent to all registrants.
