With this new program, all required course materials are included in tuition at a savings of up to 30 percent.

Fairfield University and Barnes and Noble College are excited to announce Red Stack Direct, a new course material delivery program that provides access to required course materials in a convenient package before the first day of class. Red Stack Direct is an affordable textbook rental program providing students with course materials by the first day of class, at a fixed rate of $24 per credit —a savings of up to 30 percent. This program will begin with the fall 2024 term.

Why Participate?

  • Accessibility: Students will receive all required course materials on or before the first day of class.
  • Convenience: The bookstore will compile print materials together in a convenient package that students can pick up at the bookstore, or have shipped to them directly. Digital materials will be available in Blackboard prior to the first day of class.
  • Affordability: All required course materials are included in tuition or course fee as a low, flat cost. Students save an average of up to 30 percent on course material costs through this program!
  • Transparency: The “Opt Out” provision allows students to opt out of the program and purchase course materials from any source including Barnes and Noble. Barnes and Noble can advise students of the cost of opting out as a comparison.

The new textbook program is simple to use: after students finish registering for their classes, they will automatically enter the program, and their textbook orders will be processed. A month before the start of classes, students will receive an email detailing the required and recommended course materials. During this time, they can choose their preferred shipping method: delivery to residence hall, pick-up in-store, or delivery to an off-campus location. Notifications will be sent via email when the order ships or becomes available for pick-up. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to opt out of the program within the designated opt-out period.
